Still Life Painting: Online Course with Richard K Blades
Course Description
This course will explore still life painting, with a focus on floral still life. Join artist, Richard K Blades as he teaches his approach to creating expressive, yet intimate impressions of flowers and objects. Whilst primarily a landscape painter, Blades has been developing his still life practice and is delivering this eagerly awaited online course through The Point Contemporary.
This course is open to both beginners and experienced painters
Consisting of four 2.5 hour classes, the course will take place live on Zoom. Recordings of each classes will be available within 24 hours of the recording so there is no need to attend live. Feedback on student work, through audio and written messages will be delivered on our Padlet message board.
Recordings will be available for 6 months after the completion of the live course. However, feedback on work and interaction with the tutor will only be available for the duration of the live course.

Week 1 -
Richard will present his own work and ideas and philosophy behind his practice.
A painting demonstration by Richard in which he shows the fundamentals of his approach. + participant painting time. Homework set.
Week 2 -
A demonstration by Richard + Participant painting time. A focus on Composition and observation.
Homework set.
Week 3 -
A further exploration of mark making and pushing media further.
A demonstration by Richard.
Richard will share techniques for layering and creating textures, through and mark making.
Painting time.

Week 4 -
Colour mixing and intuition, setting one’s self free from constraints

Oil paint, traditional or water mixable. Any brand will do.

Richard will be using Jackson’s Oil painting paper, other suitable brands are, Fabriano Tela,
Arches Huile, Strathmore etc. Equally you can use canvas, canvas boards or painting panels.
