A long career in textile design, working for high end interior brands has honed my skills in the use of colour and design, and now as an early career artist my work is regularly shown in UK galleries and has been bought for beautiful homes here, in Europe, and the USA.
Working from a studio in the historic East Midlands town of Southwell I'm inspired by the beauty of domestic ceramics, Japanese kimono fabrics, killims, organic shadows and, more recently, an awe inspiring month spent travelling through Norway in Winter.
My paintings begin with explorations of mark making with tools, rather than brushes. I layer paint with trowels and squeegees, and allow pencils to carelessly dance across the surface. Layer by layer, through additions and subtractions, careful scraping, and delicate scratching I unveil captivating textures and intricate patterns.
I incorporate hand painted elements into my paintings, enjoying the unexpected marks achieved by printing directly from flowers and plants.
Focussing on shapes, my discerning eyes gently mask certain areas of a painting, letting only the most beautiful parts stand out and shine: a poetic dance between objects and space.
